SUNDAY 15TH FEBRUARY - BBOB U13s welcomed Buckingham to home soil this morning in what can only be described as testing conditions. Opening the curtains, we could easily have mistaken the pitch for a swimming pool. Thanks go to Buckingham for agreeing to play the fixture despite the relentless rain and bitter wind, and not being phased by the last minute pitch switch.
The pre-match message from the coaches was clear: this was not a day for expansive rugby. Keep it tight, carry hard up the middle, and make fewer mistakes than the opposition. However, as is often the case with 12 and 13-year-olds, that advice was enthusiastically ignored!
The opening 20 minutes were arguably BBOB’s finest spell of the season. Incredibly, given the weather, the team produced some superb handling to move the ball wide, scoring a series of excellent tries and making a mockery of the conditions.
The forwards laid the platform all game with strong carries, committed tackling, and effective work at the ruck and maul. Their efforts created the space the backline thrives on, allowing them to use their pace and accuracy to devastating effect.
Good luck to parents and washing machines alike in getting the kit clean ahead of next week’s away trip to S&L Corby!
Up the Brigade!
