FAREWELL TO OUR VERY OWN KING OF THE NORTH

FAREWELL TO OUR VERY OWN KING OF THE NORTH

Amy Briggs19 Feb - 09:45

Sunday we said 'see you soon' to player Will, as he heads to Scarborough on his family's next adventure

Sunday was one of those days that reminds you what rugby is really all about.

It wasn’t just another fixture for our U13s. It was the last time much loved team mate, Will, pulled on his Northampton BBOB RFC shirt before he and his family head north to begin a new chapter in Scarborough and join a new club. And while the weather did its best to match the mood, wet, muddy, and properly wintry, it turned into a morning full of smiles, laughter, and a few emotional moments too.

Will joined BBOB back in 2021 and, over the past five years, has become a huge part of the squad.

In that time, we’ve watched him grow not just as a rugby player, but as a teammate, a competitor, and a young man who truly understands what it means to be part of a team. He’s been an absolute pleasure to coach. One of those players who gives everything, every single session, every single game. No fuss, no drama, just 110% effort and a real commitment to the game and his mates.

And that’s what we’ll probably remember most. The friendships. The way he fitted into the group. The muddy post-match huddles, the shared jokes, and the sense that this was never just about rugby. It was about being part of something together. Looking at the team after Sunday’s game, you could see exactly how much he means to the lads.

Of course, we’re sad to see him go. Players like Will leave a mark on a squad. But more than that, we’re incredibly proud of the journey he’s been on here and excited to see what comes next. We’ll be keeping an eye on his progress from afar, and we’re already talking about how this might be more of a “see you soon” than a goodbye. Perhaps even a future tour to Scarborough, or the chance to welcome Will and his new teammates back so they get to know about the Brigade.

We’d also like to say a huge thank you to Cheryl and Simon. Anyone involved in youth sport knows that behind every committed player are parents who give up their time, their weekends, and their energy to make it all possible. Your support over the years has meant a great deal to the club, and we’re very grateful for everything you’ve done.

Will, Cheryl, Simon, you’ll always be part of the BB family. Thank you for everything you’ve brought to the club. We wish you all the very best for this new adventure.

And remember, the door at BBOB is always open.

Up the Brigade!
